Camanchaca said its storm-ravaged Islotes salmon production site in Chile's southern Los Lagos region suffered 85,000 mortalities.

While platforms and other equipment suffered structural damage, netting remained largely intact at the facility which was damage by a storm last week.

Two purse seiner vessels in the area have so far retrieved 186 fish that escaped from the farm.

Stormy weather last week left behind damage to 12 cages containing 880,000 salmon weighing an average 2.8 kg each, the company said.

Onsite technicians ordered a replacement module of 12 cages judging existing ones to be unusable. Replacements are expected to be fully operational in up to four weeks.

As an interim measure, the company expects fish to be transferred to cages on standby at the site by May 29.
