Mowi, the world's largest salmon farmer, is appealing a NOK 1.2 million (€108,000/$118,000) fine for a netpen tear and a lack of risk-based audits relating to the escape of 52,000 salmon from its Austvika farm in 2018.

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries assessed the fine after a hole in the netting of one cage was discovered in February 2018. Based on the directorate's audit, the hole in the net may have been in place for two months.
