Chilean producer Blumar Seafoods confirmed the first positive case of Covid-19 in its Salmones de Talcahuano processing factory, reports Resumen. More than 450 people work at the facility.

On Saturday, March 21, the company's communication protocol and sanitary protections were activated, after being informed by a maintenance worker that he was infected. Nine workers who had contact with the infected worker during his shift, have been isolated.

According to the statement, the 35-year-old worker began to feel ill while at the factory March 21 and was referred for medical attention. He was at this point diagnosed with influenza and sent home to rest. But a second medical check-up discovered his illness was actually Covid-19.

The statement says the worker was placed on leave Monday, March 23.
