Singapore-based aquaculture producer Barramundi Asia has acquired Singaporean startup Allegro Aqua, a company founded in 2018 with the aim of scaling up production of a high-quality strain of Asian seabass (barramuni).

The startup successfully bred "superior" fingerlings with support from the National Research Foundation and the former Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.

Andrew Kwan, a director of Barramundi Asia, said the firm has plans to supply superior, vaccinated barramundi fingerlings to other fish farms in Singapore.
