Norway's salmon industry is benefiting from a pick up in orders and interest in its salmon among US buyers as Chilean producers struggle to supply the market amid widespread civil unrest in their own country.

Since the end of last week, US retail and foodservice buyers have been scrambling to cover short-term needs, Norway Seafood Council's USA Director Egil Ove Sundheim told IntraFish.

US buyers get around 50 percent of their salmon from Chile, meaning the current supply disruption is prompting them to look elsewhere for their fish.
