Scottish Sea Farms said it will lead a second applied research project focused on increasing the understanding of gill health in farmed salmon.

The move is part of the producer's "prevention over cure" approach to fish welfare.

Scottish Sea Farms will fund 62 percent of the £601,000 project (€660,448/$723,364), the salmon farmer’s second such collaboration with academics at Scotland's University of Aberdeen, feed manufacturer BioMar and the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).
