Lincolnshire-based company FloGro Fresh is farming vannamei shrimp in the United Kingdom to supply the local market, reports The Guardian.

The company is the first producer to farm vannamei, which is normally imported frozen from Asia and Latin America, in the country.

FloGro Fresh is expecting its shrimp to grow to weigh 30 grams a piece. The farm uses a closed-loop aquaculture system that runs on renewable energy. FloGro is supplied with 150,000 larvae from the United States every four to five weeks.
