SalMar plans to release 1.2 million fish with an average weight of about 200 grams into offshore Ocean Farm 1 cages this August, a five-fold increase on its first pilot production, with plans to harvest the fish in the second half of 2020.

The company's first-generation fish were harvested at the end of last year, since which time SalMar has carried out maintenance and improvements to the pilot plant.

The farming system, licensed under Norway's development scheme, experienced problems last farming cycle when a hatch was left open, leading to the cage heeling and fish escaping.
