Mexican totoaba and Pacific red snapper producer Earth Ocean Farms is targeting a sharp increase in production and sales this year helped by an export drive for a species that had never been farmed before, Pacific red snapper (Lutjanus peru).

In 2018, the company produced 180 metric tons of totoaba (totoaba macdonaldi) and 5 metric tons of Pacific red snapper, which Mexicans call "huachinango."

This year, Director Pablo Konietzko said he expects combined production to increase by 94 percent. He forecasts sales will increase by 104 percent to an undisclosed amount, as the company markets its Pacific red snapper commercially for the first time in Mexico and the United States.
