The Scottish salmon farming industry on Tuesday received what is likely the most thorough and critical public examination of the sector.

The 65 recommendations made by Scotland's Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee (click here to download the full report) are an exhaustive "to do" list for the Scottish salmon industry, and it will be impossible for salmon farmers to ignore its findings.

The committee was clear that "status quo...is not acceptable," and that "urgent and meaningful action needs to be taken to address regulatory deficiencies as well as fish health and environmental issues before the industry can expand."
