Prompted by current low shrimp prices and projections of increasing global supply in the coming years, leaders in the shrimp industry are developing plans for the creation of a new generic shrimp marketing program.

During the recent Global Outlook for Aquaculture Leadership (GOAL) conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in September, nearly 60 shrimp industry leaders met to initiate discussions on the need for a shrimp marketing council and how such a group could be created.

“It won’t be easy,” George Chamberlain, president of the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), organizers of GOAL, told IntraFish.
