Marine Harvest’s recent tie up with Spanish whitefish trader and processor Scanfisk will see the latter supply the salmon giant with a wide range of whitefish – predominantly southern European species such as hake, cod, bass, bream and cuttlefish – for value-added processing (VAP).
Marine Harvest is taking over Scanfisk’s processing plant in Zaragoza and in return will supply Scanfisk with salmon for its trading business as well as open up its network to the company.
Both have been present in the value-added category in Spain for some years, but neither has made the inroads they desire.
