Spanish seafood processor Angulas Aguinaga is gaining significant market share with its recent acquisition of octopus producer Viveros Merimar.

Viveros Merimar was the main competitor for Angulas Aguinaga’s brand Aguinamar, which the company uses for octopus and other fish.

Angulas Aguinaga CEO Ignacio Muñoz told IntraFish the acquisition is just one of the strategies the company is pursuing.

“Our plan is to diversify from our [surimi brands] La Gula del Norte and Krissia brands, consolidating Aguinamar, and strengthening our presence internationally and in the foodservice channel,” Muñoz said.
