New Zealand's largest iwi-owned seafood company, Moana New Zealand, is appointing Steve Tarrant as its new chief executive officer, it said Wednesday.

The company, formerly known as Aotearoa Fisheries, is the parent of New Zealand's Sealord Group.

Tarrant has a "deep understanding of the fishing industry," with more than 25 years experience in various companies across New Zealand and more recently the last nine years with Moana NZ.

During his time with Moana NZ he successfully established and supported iwi partnership such as the Iwi Collective Partnership and Port Nicholson Fisheries.
