The future of Cooke Aquaculture could go one of several ways as the vote on a proposed bill nears in the Washington state Senate. The last of Cooke's leases expires in 2025 and this bill aims to phase out Atlantic salmon farming in Washington state.

Lawmakers in the House passed the bill Feb. 14 with a vote of 67-31 and it now sits in the Senate. This bill, ( EHB 2957), is a watered down version of a similar one that previously died in the Senate.
