The first eight king crab purchases of the year have seen prices between NOK 180 (€18.60/$22.30) and NOK 190 (€19.70/$23.50) for the largest, most fished crabs, according to Tor-Edgar Ripman, marketing manager at Norwegian trader Råfisklaget.

"Prices are at a record level right now due to two things," Ripman told IntraFish sister publication Fiskeribladet."The new regulations that have started the year with new quotas that allow us to adapt so as not to meet as much competition from other exporting countries; and our success in packing and sending live crabs to the markets."
