Incidents orchestrated by organized criminals in the Taura region of Ecuador's Guayas province cost shrimp producers $150,000 (€138,482) alone in the first two weeks of 2023.

In less than 15 days this year, there was one death and two injuries in 10 incidents in which people transporting shrimp were attacked, according to an update sent to IntraFish by shrimp producers trade association the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA).

In 2022, the actions of organized criminals cost the industry more than $500,000 (€461,607) in losses just in the closing quarter of the year.
