A US Congressional committee has included recommendations for forming a national seafood council in an explanatory report submitted as part of an omnibus $1.7 trillion (€1.6-trillion) US government funding bill Congress is reviewing for 2023.

The US House Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies published the report Tuesday stating that "promoting seafood on a national scale may lead to increased seafood consumption and a stronger seafood industry."

"Within 180 days from enactment of this act, the Committee directs NOAA to provide a report to the Committee detailing how the agency would facilitate a National Seafood Council through the Fisheries Promotion Fund," the report reads.
