Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries is temporarily halting the approval of new permit applications for land-based aquaculture projects, it announced on Dec. 20.

The suspension, which has been initially set for six months, will apply until new regulations for land-based aquaculture are in place.

"There has been significant technological development within concepts that seek permission for aquaculture production on land," said Norway's Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bjornar Skjaeran.

"This indicates that the industry is innovative and growing rapidly.
