From navigating a US ban on all Russia-origin seafood imports to enduring major scrutiny from the US Department of Justice over using an obscure railway in Canada to transport product, the Alaska pollock industry encountered several challenges in 2022.
However, not all of the news was bad. The industry also saw improved perceptions when it comes to pollock -- particularly among US consumers -- and US pollock producers have certainly benefited from their competitive edge over other proteins in a year when inflation had food consumers seeking less expensive options.
