Norway, the EU, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and the United Kingdom this week signed agreements on 2023 quotas for blue whiting and herring.

A total quota of 1,359,629 metric tons of blue whiting and a total quota of 511,171 metric tons of herring (Atlanto-Scandian) were agreed.

The agreement is in line with the advice of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

"I am very pleased we have now agreed on the total quotas for both herring and blue whiting for 2023, and that both stocks will be managed within a strictly biological and sustainable framework," Norway's Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bjornar Skjaeran said.
