The Faroe Islands government and party leaders held a meeting Wednesday, whereby it agreed to continue its current fishing agreement with Russia.

There was apparently broad political support for entering into a new one-year fishing agreement with the country.

"It is without a doubt the right thing to do for the Faroe Islands, and I am happy that all parties in the parliament, except one, see the rational in this," Faroese government Minister of Fisheries Arni Skaale told Danish news service DR.
