US seafood retailers will likely be happy when 2022 comes to a close.

Through the first three quarters of the year, the major seafood species that form the backbone of US fresh seafood sales in supermarkets -- with the exception of salmon -- have seen steep declines in dollar sales from the year before, according to new IRI retail data compiled by 210 Analytics.

Shrimp dollar sales, for example, were 12 percent lower in the first quarter of this year than in the same period in 2021.
