Analysts are weighing in on Mowi's acquisition of a controlling stake in Icelandic salmon farmer Arctic Fish, and at least one says its a clear a countermove to a newly proposed tax regime in Norway.

Mowi, the world's largest salmon farmer, reached an agreement Monday to acquire a controlling stake in Arctic Fish from rival SalMar as part of a deal clearing the way for the latter's merger with NTS. It is Mowi's first purchase in Iceland.

The European Commission ruled Monday it would approve Norwegian salmon farmer SalMar's purchase of a controlling stake in NTS, which would include a merger of SalMar's salmon farming operations with Norway Royal Salmon (NRS).
