The imminent announcement of the second season of Peruvian anchovy quotas has major fishing and aquaculture companies on tenterhooks, with much of global fishmeal supply hinging on the volumes produced in the country.

Over the past couple of years, the global fishmeal industry has produced 5 million tons of fishmeal and 1.2 million tons of fish oil, helped by favorable quotas and climatic conditions.

The Peruvian anchovy quota announcements are keenly awaited because they tend to set the market price with the South American nation being a key producer.
