The First Nations for Finfish Stewardship Coalition on Monday asked Canada Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray to reconsider shuttered Discovery Islands salmon farms that were located within the territories of We Wai Kai First Nation and Klahoose First Nations in her consultations as she develops a plan to transition from netpen aquaculture in British Columbia.

Dallas Smith, a spokesperson for the coalition and a member of the Tlowitsis First Nation, urged the minister in a statement to reconsider a decision made by her predecessor that closed down the Discovery Island farms entirely this past June.
