Fishermen, processors and buyers of Bristol Bay sockeye should expect to see a noticeably lower harvest of the prized salmon next season, after what turned out to be a record-breaking catch this summer.

Although official projections have not been released by either the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) or researchers at the University of Washington, those with knowledge of fishery told IntraFish the total run will likely range between 45 million and 55 million salmon in the 2023 season.
