Total allowable catch (TAC) and quota sharing discussions for the controversial northeast Atlantic pelagic species of mackerel, herring and blue whiting continue to drag on after almost a week of talks between the coastal states in London.
On Friday last week, the TAC for herring and blue whiting were discussed but no formal agreements were reached, Tom Pickerell, executive director of the North Atlantic Pelagic Advocacy Group (NAPA), told IntraFish.
Parties tentatively agreed to set the TAC for Atlanto-Scandian herring in line with the headline advice from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), equating to 511,171 metric tons, down 38 percent from an estimated catch of 827,963 metric tons in 2022.
