German consumer retail spend on fish and seafood reached a record €5.4 billion ($5.3 billion) during 2021, despite consumption shrinking compared with the previous COVID-dominated years, according to recent data from industry association Fisch-Informationszentrum (FIZ).

The per capita consumption of 12.5 kilograms remained below the level of the previous two “special years,” when the world was in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, said FIZ.
