'You need good nerves': It's still early days for Europe's land-based shrimp farms, but this Austrian player with billionaire owners is slowly finding success

The Flick family, a German industrial and political dynasty worth billions of euros, had never before invested in seafood.

But in 2018 it decided to plough its money into building an indoor shrimp farm.

In 2020 it produced its first shrimp.

Named after the emblem on the region's flag, White Panther is nestled among the Styrian Mountains in Austria and fueled by 16,000 hectares of surrounding forest.
