Norwegian fishermen are hoping politics will be kept out of the upcoming fisheries negotiations with Russia, after Norway banned Russian fishing vessels from landing at all but three ports last week.

Under the new regulations, Russian fishing boats will now only be allowed to dock at three of Norway's several dozen ports -- Tromso, Batsfjord and Kirkenes -- and will be subject to enhanced security checks when they do.

The Russian fisheries authorities have criticized the decision, and the Norwegian fishing industry is concerned it might damage the long-standing bilateral relationship between Norway and Russia on fisheries negotiations.
