The top executive at seafood processing giant Milarex said findings from internal food safety review shows that its salmon suppliers are not doing enough to address listeria contamination.

The Poland-based group reported a troubling increase in listeria, with 4.3 percent of all incoming raw material testing positive during 2021, compared to 2.9 percent in 2020 and 5 percent in 2019.

Milarex CEO Thomas Farstad called the findings "below standard as an industry."

“I’m not surprised by the findings in the report, as my impression is that suppliers are not doing enough to get rid of problem,” Farstad told IntraFish.
