The biggest issue for the Alaska pollock industry is not fisheries management. What the sector needs, according to Allen Kimball, senior executive consultant for Trident Seafoods, is technology to help producers fully utilize the fish they harvest and cut.

Kimball, speaking at this week's GOAL conference in Seattle, predicted there will continue to be "a lot of advancements technologically" when it comes to harvesting fish from Alaska.

The industry needs greater utilization of products and proteins and materials that are part of fish byproducts, he said, but "seafood still has a lot of work to do on that side of the equation."
