Mowi Scotland said it will appeal against a recent refusal of planning permission for its Loch Hourn salmon farm to increase production at the site.

Should the appeal be successful, it would grant permission for an additional salmon netpen to be installed, boosting the production site's capacity by 10 percent, Mowi said.

Campaigners against the move said the "knife-edge" planning committee victory represents the first time in Scotland that such a project has been quashed because of the threat to wild salmon and sea trout.
