Record-high second quarter salmon prices were reflected in most of the salmon farming industry's earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) per kg numbers -- one of the key metrics for efficiency in the sector.

Although lower seasonal demand has seen Norwegian prices halve from the record NOK125 (€12.44/$12.46)/kg levels seen in May, producers looked back on recent events with astonishment.

"We could hardly believe what happened in the second quarter, when we passed a three-digit salmon price. And it just went on, and never came down," Masoval CEO Asle Ronning said.
