Ecuadorian shrimp exports reached an all-time monthly high in July for the third consecutive month, blowing away the previous record set just a month earlier by nearly 9 percent.
Global shipments totaled 227.7 million pounds in July, a 40 percent increase over the same month last year, according to latest figures published by Ecuador's Camara Nacional de Acuacultura (CNA) trade association.
Ecuador's shrimp exports to China set a new record at 122 million pounds, breezing past the previous best of 116 million pounds established in May 2020.
Shipments to China from Ecuador climbed 72 percent from a year earlier.
Despite slower seafood sales in the United States in recent months, exports to that market rose 19 percent from a year earlier to 42.5 million pounds.
Exports to Europe, however, fell 10 percent to 39.9 million pounds. Notably, shipments to France dropped 42 percent to 7.1 million pounds.
Consignments bound for Italian customers slid 8 percent to 5.5 million pounds.
Meanwhile, shipments to Spain dipped 3 percent from a year earlier to 13.9 million pounds.
In the first seven months of this year, Ecuador's global shipments were up 34 percent from a year earlier to 1.35 billion pounds.
