Fish oil demand from both humans and their pets is rising, opening up potential new opportunities for Alaska pollock producers.

The global nutraceuticals and supplements market has steadily grown over the last decade, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Since the onset of the pandemic, the sale of global nutraceuticals and supplements in the US alone shot up -- an estimated $435 million (€436 million) more -- from 2019 to 2020.

Global EPA/DHA supplement sales reached an estimated $5 billion (€5 billion) in 2021, making it the fourth largest consumer products category that omega-3 association GOED tracks in its Finished Product Report, which also includes food and beverage, infant formula, pet food, pharmaceuticals and medical food/clinical nutrition.
