The Humboldt County Planning Commission at its meeting Thursday night voted unanimously to certify the Environmental Impact Report (EIR), marking a step forward in finalizing further permits for Nordic Aquafarms's California salmon farming project.

In addition, the commission also approved the coastal development permit, the company said in a press statement.

With the EIR certified, Nordic will now go before the California Coastal Commission and the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board for its next steps in the permitting process

The company was seeking to obtain its coastal development permit and a special permit in order to demolish a former California pulp mill facility.
