With inflation and the recession weighing heavily on consumers, US retail sales of seafood are basically back to 2019 levels. But that is not necessarily a bad spot to be in according to economists at US lending giant Wells Fargo covering seafood and agriculture sector.

"When you look at what everybody is talking about, seafood consumption is down a bit," David Branch, Wells Fargo Food & Agribusiness sector manager, told IntraFish.

"But when you compare to consumption of other proteins, seafood has gained while others have lost."
