Residents in Jonesport, Maine, later today will vote whether to institute a six-month moratorium on aquaculture projects in the town at a time when a Netherlands-based The Kingfish Company is on the verge of getting the necessary final approval from town officials for its land-based farm.

The moratorium, if passed, would apply to "any commercial facilities located on land or in, on, or under coastal waters that involve or support aquaculture."

The Kingfish Company CEO Ohad Maiman told IntraFish it has become accustomed by now to challenges throughout the process of securing permits for the land-based facility, which will be operated by subsidiary Kingfish Maine.
