Russian whitefish will find its way to markets regardless of whether there are trade bans or tariffs implemented by western countries, said top executives in the sector at the recent North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) in Bergen.

Sanctions placed on Russia in the wake of its unprovoked war in Ukraine have had significant consequences for global cod, pollock and haddock markets, and put further pressure on prices and supplies.

The United States has already moved to ban seafood imports from Russia, while the United Kingdom is currently mulling placing additional 35 percent tariffs on imports of whitefish from the country.
