The recent United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon highlighted a big appetite for ocean and aquaculture investments, but current investment structures need to change in order to scale and develop the sector at the pace required.

For the ocean and aquaculture sector to develop sustainably and for companies to become greener and more profitable, private equity firms and venture capitalist firms need better access to more flexible funding solutions.

“One of the main takeaways of the conference from an investor’s point of view was that we need to update the current financing models,” Aqua-Spark co-founder, Mike Velings told IntraFish.
