Australis Mar -- a division of Chilean salmon producer Australis Seafoods -- is facing new charges that it overproduced more than 3,000 metric tons of salmon at its Retroceso growout site in Chile's southern Magallanes region.

The alleged offence took place between January and December 2019 at Riesco Island within the Kawesqar National Reserve.

It is the sixth case Chile's Environmental Superintendancy (SMA) has opened against the company and the fourth related to overproduction.

Australis Mar is also facing the lesser charge of exceeding the maximum parameters related to effluent from the center's wastewater treatment plant.
