Norwegian salmon prices for fished delivered next week remain above NOK 100 (€9.82/$10.34) per kilogram, according to market sources, a level that had buyers reluctant to make deals as of mid-day Friday.

The working week in Norway was curtailed by a public holiday Monday, and a public holiday in Poland, a large processor of salmon, added to the expectation that prices would soften.

"It is a bit quiet, and prices are probably falling a bit," an exporter told IntraFish.

Buyers are being particularly cautious about taking positions on fish delivered towards the end of next week, the exporter added.

The exporter reported prices of around NOK 99-NOK 105 (€9.72-€10.31/$10.24-$10.86) for 3-6 kilogram sized fish, depending on certification, delivery date and other factors.

Another exporter reported salmon prices are more or less unchanged from last week, estimating prices would end at around NOK 101-NOK 108 (€9.92-€10.61/$10.46-$11.18) per kilogram for weight classes 3-4 kg, 4-5 kg ​​and 5-6 kg.

Another market source reported 6 kilogram-plus sized fish packed for airfreight from Oslo's Gardermoen airport were fetching around NOK 125-130 (€12.28-€12.77/$12.94-$13.46).

Towards the end of the week, the source projected prices would fall by around NOK 5 (€0.49/$0.51) per kilo.

An IntraFish survey of market sources on Friday revealed the following prices.

  • 4-5 kg: NOK 102 - 104 (€10.01-10.21/$10.54-10.75)/ kg
  • 5-6 kg: NOK 105 - 108 (€10.31-10.61/$10.86-11.18) / kg
  • 6+ kg: NOK 110 - 130 (€10.80-12.77/$11.38-13.46)/ kg
