Sakhalin-based fisheries giant Gidrostroy became the second Russian company to begin at-sea surimi production, following in the footsteps of rival Russian Fishery Company.

Gidrostroy’s trawler Alexander Kosarev produced 1,000 metric tons of surimi during its first fishing voyage to the area off Sakhalin after a significant modernization.

As part of the update, the trawler was fitted with a factory able to process up to 450 metric tons of raw material into pollock fillets, mince, roe, milt, fishmeal and surimi.

Prior to the trip, which began in March, Gidrostroy had only ever produced surimi at its Kurilsky Rybak processing facility, a source from the company told IntraFish.
