One arrested as insolvent UK salmon smoker investigated for food fraud

One arrest has been made involving insolvent UK salmon smoker Bleiker’s Smokehouse, which is being investigated by the UK's National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) over claims of alleged fraud, the government agency confirmed to IntraFish.

Bleiker's entered administration on April 29 following the loss of a significant contract with a major retailer.

"Our investigation into Bleiker's Smokehouse Ltd is related to a number of alleged issues including concerns about their country of origin claims on some of their smoked salmon products," Gavan Wafer, head of investigation at the NFCU, told IntraFish in a statement.
