Although Atlantic cod prices are around 40 percent higher than they were a year ago, they don't seem to be in any danger of turning away customers, according to Klaus Nielsen, CEO of Danish frozen fish supplier Espersen.

"Yes, prices have really gone up the last six months, but compared to pre-COVID, they are about 10 percent higher, so they are expensive but not 'salmon expensive,'" Nielsen said at the IntraFish Seafood Leadership Luncheon in Barcelona.

Cod is a global species and an important part of diets worldwide, so while consumption "might ease a bit," Nielsen doesn't expect a major decline.
