Air freight rates for salmon flown from Chile to the US market have come down from their peak at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
As the world grappled with COVID-19 and airlines drastically cut the availability of passenger flights, salmon producers were forced to turn to cargo flight operators to get their products into North America.
This led to hikes in freight charges of up to 60 percent, although exporters were able to cover the extra cost because of higher prices helped by strong demand from retail buyers.
