Agrosuper-owned AquaChile has sold its Costa Rica tilapia operations, Rainforest Tilapia, to central American whitefish farmer and wildcatch exporter Martec.

Rainforest staff were informed of the sale last week, sources told IntraFish. An AquaChile spokesperson confirmed the deal to IntraFish on Monday.

Founded in 1982 in Quepos, Costa Rica, Martec is one of the largest marine fish processing and marine aquaculture companies in Central America.

With operations in Costa Rica, Panama and the United States, it produces farmed rose snapper, and is the largest wild-caught fish exporter in Costa Rica.
