After decades working at companies reliant on the smooth global flow of trade, Blue Harvest Fisheries CEO Keith Decker saw COVID expose the fragility of the US seafood supply chain -- and that convinced him it was time to shift his focus closer to home.

Last month, Decker announced he would be taking on the top role at American Aquafarms, a Maine-based startup, closed-containment salmon farming project dreamed up by Norwegian executives.

The move came as a surprise: Decker leads a company that has grown tremendously over the past several years, supplies a product in high demand, and has reliable backing in the form of both private equity group Bregal Partners and private investors, including Decker himself.
